Decadent Serpent
We want to combine multiple cultural disciplines all in one place. We’re bored of buying ten different magazines for ten different subjects. We wanted to put art, literature, film, and music all under one umbrella and this is what Decadent Serpent is going to achieve. We want to give you book reviews of books worth reading, film reviews of films that grab you, art exhibition reviews of art that will truly move you, creative writing that will bite right into your flesh (metaphorically), and features that will leave you inspired. Additionally, we want to promote the best of the best events – carefully curated, intellectually stimulating events that are worth your time. We don’t want good events to get lost in the sea of nonsense as it’s often the case. You can trust us to deliver to you your daily intellectual nourishment so you can leave inspired and ready to create new things yourself or have your day made by getting smarter.
Dinah founded Decadent Serpent in order to bring together all the disciplines she loved to read about. Frustrated by the lack of a central hub for interesting events in her city and cultural content, she set out to create a space that not only fills this gap but also showcases the creative work of Scottish artists. Heavily inspired by the key figures from the modernist era, such as Wyndham Lewis, F.T. Marinetti, and Ezra Pound, Decadent Serpent aims to rejuvenate the creative industries on both local and national scale. With the magazine based in Edinburgh, the focus of the magazine is to help local artists flourish, while also casting a spotlight on artists across the United Kingdom.
